The periodic table is a fascinating system of ordering the elements. The Russian chemist Dimitri Mendeleev and the German chemist Lothar Meyer recognized this independently from each other and almost simultaneously in 1869. In 2019, the Periodic Table celebrated its 150th birthday. Thus, the United Nations General Assembly and UNESCO define the year 2019 as the International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements.
